The Campbell Bathroom, Then and Now
Most shower doors in Campbell go into one of two kinds of houses. The first is the single-family home from the 1950s, 60s or 70s, built on a lot of about 6,000 square feet after the city incorporated on March 28, 1952 and orchards gave way to housing tracts. The second is the larger home built mainly in the 1990s on a subdivided lot. The bathrooms in those two houses ask for very different glass, and we plan each job around which one you have.
Mid-century hall baths
Campbell's Wikipedia page notes the vast majority of homes were built in the 1950s through 1970s. A typical hall bath from that era has a standard tub with a shower head and maybe 5 feet of wall-to-wall width. A swinging door often doesn't have room to open past the toilet. For these, the usual choices are:
- A bypass sliding door, framed or frameless top-rail
- A fixed tub screen, a single panel covering the shower-head end, open at the other
- A hinged tub door where clearance allows
We check the tub's flange and the tile for level before ordering, since a slight slope in an older tub changes how the bottom track or seal sits.
1990s rebuilds and primary suites
Newer, larger homes from the 1990s, plus houses in the San Tomas neighborhood, which the city's Wikipedia page notes varies from most of Campbell in lot sizes and styles, are more likely to have a separate stall shower or a primary bath with room to spare. That is where frameless doors with an inline panel, corner enclosures and walk-in panels make sense. These rooms also tend to have the original builder-grade framed doors, which by now have worn rollers and stained frames, so replacement with frameless glass is a common project.
What comes out of Campbell taps
Campbell is inside San Jose Water's service area, according to the utility's service-area map, which marks parts of the region as primarily mountain surface water, groundwater or imported Valley Water. The utility manages about 6,000 acres of watershed in the Los Gatos and Saratoga Creek watersheds. Its report lists mountain surface water at 151 ppm hardness, about 9 grains per gallon, groundwater at 288 ppm on average and Valley Water at 99 ppm.
By Valley Water's own scale, 120 to 180 mg/L is hard and anything over 180 is very hard, so whichever source reaches you, your glass will need regular care. We recommend a protective coating on clear glass and a quick squeegee routine, and we can suggest frosted or patterned glass for hall baths where spotting would bother you most.

Campbell Questions
My Campbell hall bath is tiny. What glass fits?
A bypass slider or a fixed tub screen usually works best in a compact 1950s to 1970s bathroom, since neither needs swing room. If there is enough clearance, a hinged frameless tub door is another option. We measure the space around the tub before recommending one.
Can you replace the framed door in my 1990s Campbell home?
Yes. Builder-grade framed doors from that era often have worn rollers or corroded tracks. We remove the old door, check the opening and install frameless or semi-frameless glass sized to it.
Why does my glass spot so quickly in Campbell?
San Jose Water serves Campbell from a mix of supplies. Its 2025 report lists imported Valley Water at 99 ppm, mountain surface water at 151 ppm and groundwater averaging 288 ppm. Any of those leaves minerals behind when droplets dry, so a coating and a squeegee help.
Is Campbell in your service area?
Yes. Campbell is just south of Santa Clara, so scheduling a free measure is easy.
